San Saba County Pecan Field Day

AgriLifeLogoTexas AgriLife Extension Service and the San Saba County Pecan Growers Association will host the annual Pecan Field Day on May 2nd at the San Saba Civic Center. Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. with the program beginning at 9:00 o’clock. There will be a $30.00 registration for those who pre-register and $35.00 at the door. A catfish lunch will be provided by Betty Ann and Tommy Johnson. Speakers for this year’s program are: Scott Anderson, Brown County Extension Agent, Laws and Regulations; Bill Ree, Pecan Specialist, College Station will discuss Pecan Integrated Pest Management; General Orchard Management and Pecan Disease Control will be covered by Dr. Larry Stein, Extension Horticulturist in Uvalde; Dr. Tommy Thompson, USDA Pecan Specialist, College Station, will discuss varieties and propagation; Market Update will be provided by Dr. Jose Pena, Extension Economist in Uvalde.

Several commercial exhibitors will have equipment and products available for your consideration. Time during the program will be allowed for you to visit with these supporters of our educational effort. Capital Farm Credit, Moore’s Service Center, Womack Nursery Company, Lawson Implement, and Southern Nut  N Tree/PPI are those we know of at this time. Six Continuing Education Units are being offered for those with Private, Non Commercial, or Commercial Applicator License. (2 General, 2, IPM, 2 L&R.) This annual Field Day has been well attended for many years. Plan to attend and invite someone interested in the Pecan Industry. Please pre-register by April 25th. This will enable Mrs. Johnson to better prepare for lunch. Call or come by the San Saba County Extension office to register or if you have questions. (325) 372-5416.
