HarteFamilySmTwo Texas National Guard units were deployed from the Brownwood area to Afghanistan on April 12th. The two units are the Forward Support Company (FSC), Texas National Guard of Stephenville, and the Headquarters and Support Company (HSC), Texas National Guard of Brownwood from the 111th Engineer Battalion.

Brownwood ISD will be offering an informative presentation for school personnel, parents and community members to support the deployment. We will be gathering in the conference room of the BISD Administration Office at 2700 Southside Drive on Friday April 15, from 10am to 12 noon.

Pam Mingle from the Texas Joint Family Support Assistance Program (JFSAP) will present on all support services available to families before, during and after deployment.

Linda Davis, Program Manager Volunteer, will present information on the “Backpack Journalist Program” geared towards 12 to 18 year-olds who are affected by deployment through the expression of writing, song writing, photography, poetry, editorial cartooning, film making, digital publishing and journaling.

Joyce Leidig, from the Brownwood Military and Family Support Group will be presenting on Hero Packs. Hero Packs serve as a tangible expression of support for military families from their communities.

Kimberly Calton, representing the Family Readiness Group (FRG) will be available to present information about support and resources through the FRG group.

Tony Cruz, Vet to Vet Program will present different resources available to active duty military through their program.

All school personnel, parents, and community members are invited to attend this informative presentation about services available for those affected by military deployment.  This workshop is for ALL families who have someone who has deployed or will be deploying in the future.

Please join us as we discover how to provide concentrated support to families during this time of separation. If there are any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Kimber Bennett, Woodland Heights Counselor, at kimber.bennett@brownwoodisd.org or at 325-646-8633.
