Day2

Smoldering insulation led to an early morning rekindle that destroyed what remained of the home of Casey and Jamie Jones after a Tuesday afternoon fire.  (Click here for previous story)  They along with their 5 children are being helped by the Red Cross and their church, Southside Church with lodging and immediate needs.

According to Fire Marshall Buddy Preston, the Brownwood Fire Department had checked on the home at 9:45pm and found no “hot spots” then a neighbor checked it again shortly after midnight.

The fire had completely gutted the kitchen yesterday and heat along with smoke damaged the rest of the house.  Although there was a huge hole in the roof, some things were still salvageable at that time and it was hoped that the family could recover some of their belongings.  However, at 2:55am, BFD was called back to 3308 1st Street to a rekindle of the fire that is believed to have started in the attic.

“There was an abundance of blown in insulation in the attic,” stated Preston.  “Some smoldering insulation rekindled the fire.”

Preston stated that fire crews again put out the blaze, but there was nothing to salvage, only walls of the Jones’ home remain standing.  (Pictured above)

Southside Church will be accepting donations for the Jones at 1303 Indian Creek from 5:00-8:00pm this evening.  Monetary donations along with clothing, house wares and other necessary items are greatly appreciated.
