If you’re a gardener who’s been considering adding honey bees to help pollinate your garden, there are some things you need to know.  Daniel Graham, coordinator for the Brownwood Community Garden, will present a program this evening (Tue 4/12) at the Brown County Agricultural Extension office on Fisk beginning at 6pm.

Graham will give a demonstration on beginning bee -keeping and the process of building and creating a simple beehive, and how to keep your beehive healthy and productive.  Graham also operates a “honeybee rescue” service to collect honeybees that are not wanted.

Graham says, “It’s a shame that the general public is so uninformed about the significance of honey bees, and their contribution to the plant pollination process which ultimately contributes to what plants and plant products people consume.”

Bees are an intricate part of the overall eco-system and food production process in this country, and the fact that most people are so uninformed that they will kill out a bee hive without thinking about their necessity to our own food chain is sad.  Bees, and not just production honey bees, are vital to the pollination and reproduction of plants that are used for food and other essential products made from plants and plant fibers.  Before you consider killing a hive or nest of bees, contact Daniel Graham at (325) 641-9029.
