tennis_logoThe Howard Payne men’s tennis team moves to 3-1 in conference action with a 9-0 win over Schreiner University Tuesday afternoon in Brownwood.

The Yellow Jackets cruised through the doubles matches winning #1 8-2, #2 8-1, and #3 8-4.

Howard Payne used that momentum to sweep through singles play and take the match 9-0. Howard Payne had close matches in the #3, #4, and #5 spots. Raymond Borjas won in #3 singles 6-3, 4-6, 7-5, Luis Vallecillo won in the #4 singles 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, 6-2, and Shawn Hodge won in the #5 singles spot 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2).

Howard Payne improves 7-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play, while Schreiner falls to 5-13 overall and 1-2 in conference.

The Jackets next home match will be on April 9th at 11:00 am versus the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

2. Jeff Toyne (HPU) def. Kyle Mentzel (SU-MT) 6-3, 6-0
3. Raymond Borjas (HPU) def. Alex Hammond (SU-MT) 6-3, 4-6, 7-5
4. Luis Vallecillo (HPU) def. Matt Salazar (SU-MT) 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, 6-2
5. Shawn Hodge (HPU) def. Dylan Walker (SU-MT) 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2)
6. Ryan Prather (HPU) def. Derek Brosky (SU-MT) 6-1, 6-1

Doubles competition
