ToddMargaretMargaret Edith Jackson Todd of Spring Branch, Texas; Sunrise – 9.14.19 Sunset 3.24.11.

Margaret passed away in her home surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at the age of 92.

Born in Brownwood, Texas to Lucile & Herman Jackson, Margaret graduated from Brownwood High in 1938.  During WWII, Margaret worked at Camp Bowie, where she met her first husband, Arthur Herwig, in 1941. She worked for several years as a legal secretary for the County Attorney in Brownwood and worked for Southwestern States Telephone Company for thirteen years.

Margaret also worked in Austin at Bergstrom Air Force Base and it was there that she met her second husband, Lt. Col. Kenneth E. Todd. Margaret and Kenneth married in 1967 and soon relocated to Washington, D.C., where Kenneth was assigned to the Pentagon. They remained in that area until his retirement in 1986 at which point they returned to Texas to retire in Spring Branch.

In Brownwood, Margaret was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club and in 1961 served as Vice President for the Legal Secretaries Association.  She received a personal letter from President Clinton for her service during WWII.  In Spring Branch, Margaret served for several years on the Property Owner’s Association of Indian Hills as Secretary and Treasurer and was an active member of her community.

Margaret enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching hummingbirds, Dallas Cowboys football, and was an avid BHS Lions fan, attending this season’s playoff games in San Angelo and Dallas. She loved riding with the top down in her convertible, East Coast lighthouses, Tex-Mex dinners, a cold beer, and Key Lime Pie. She cherished time spent with family, friends, and her beloved pets.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, and her beloved sister Thelma Jackson Fitzgerald.

Margaret will forever be remembered by her surviving adult children, daughter Julie Durham of Spring Branch and son, James Herwig of Sarasota, FL.  She is also survived by grandchildren, Paul Douglas Allen Durham of Beaumont, TX, Sherri Durham of San Antonio, TX, Christopher and Stephen Herwig of AL., seven great grandchildren; Adrian Durham and Damon Berry of San Antonio, Amanda Durham of Merritt Island, FL, Bradleigh, Kayla, Carter and J.T. Herwig of AL, her dog Xena, and countless other friends and family who are blessed to have memories of her to carry in their hearts.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at Greenleaf Cemetery, 2615 Highway 377 South, Brownwood, TX 76801 on April 2nd, 2011, at 2:00 pm.
