As an opportunity to honor World War II Veterans from the Big Country, the West Texas Honor Flight will provide Veterans from across the area a chance to fly to see the World War II Memorial and other memorials in Washington, D.C. at no cost.

The well deserved one day trip will take place on April 12, 2011 and is a tribute to these courageous men and women of West Texas.  The Flight will be on two chartered 737 aircraft which will leave Abilene Regional Airport on the morning of April 12th and returning around midnight the same day.

This flight is made possible entirely by donated funds from foundations, individuals, and businesses that recognize the great accomplishments and sacrifices of our veterans and want them to see their memorial in Washington, D.C.

Sponsorship for one veteran costs $750 and all contributions are tax deductible.  One hundred percent of the donations received will be used to send the West Texas World War II Veterans to Washington, D.C.   Funds totaling $225,000 of the $250,000 required have been collected; however, organizers stated that the last dollars are often the most difficult to raise.

“We are asking people to give to this project”, said Dr. Lanny Hall, President of Hardin-Simmons University. “ We have 24 World War II Veterans from Brown and San Saba Counties who have applied to make this trip.”

For more information regarding sponsorship, contact Vicki House at 325-670-5892, visit the West Texas Honor Flight
