JeanFisherA celebration of the resurrection and thanksgiving for the life of Jean Fisher will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Union Presbyterian Church in Brownwood.

Jean Layne Conlisk Fisher was born October 2,1923, in Temple Texas, the eldest of 3 daughters born to Jack B. and Lillian Landers Conlisk. She graduated from Brownwood High School and attended Texas State College for Women (now Texas Woman’s University), Daniel Baker College, and Howard Payne University.

On February 7, 1943, Jean married Charles R. (Bob) Fisher. The Fishers raised their four children (Ellen, Cherie, Chuck and Jon) in Brownwood and were active in church and community. In 1991 they were honored with the Outstanding Citizen Award from the Brownwood Independent School District in appreciation for service to the youth of Brownwood. Both were elders at Union Presbyterian Church. They instilled in their children their values of service to God and neighbor; Ellen and Chuck both became Presbyterian ministers and Cherie and Jon are both teachers.

Bob’s post-retirement career was as a square dance caller and teacher, and Jean was his partner in that endeavor, as in all others. After Bob’s death in 1995, Jean founded a line dance group that came to be called the Lifeliners, leading four classes each week until 2 months before her death.

Jean died at home on March 17, following a short illness. Preceded in death by husband Bob and son Chuck, Jean Fisher is survived by daughters Ellen and Cherie and son Jon, and by 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in memory of Jean Fisher to Buffalo Gap Encampment, c/o Union Presbyterian Church, 700 Fisk Ave., Brownwood TX, 76801; or to Lighthouse Hospice, 107 -E South Park Drive, Brownwood TX 76801; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
