CityofBrownwoodlogo_smallIncumbents were the only candidates to file by Monday’s deadline for a place on the ballot in the City of Brownwood elections according to City Secretary Christi Wynn.

Although March 14th was the deadline for candidates wishing their names to appear on the ballot, it is not too late for write-in candidates to file.  March 21st marks the write-in deadline.  After that deadline, if there are no new candidates to challenge the incumbents, the city council will cancel the election at the next meeting on March 22, 2011.

Three council seats were up for grabs in Brownwood including Ward 2, currently held by Eddie Watson; Ward 3, currently held by Carl McMillan; and Ward 5, currently held by Jerry DeHay.

Early City elections also are unopposed with filings of Bob Mangrum for Mayor and incumbent council members Joel Johnson and Janice Bush.

Bangs City Council is the only contested race of the area at this time.  Eric Bishop is running unopposed for mayor.  Candidates for city council include Rick Phelps and incumbents Waymond Sheppard and Cornelius Hood.

Cities of Brownwood, Early and Bangs will hold early voting from May 2-6 from 8:00am until 5:00pm and 9-10 from 7:00am-7:00pm at the Adams Street Community Center.  Election Day will be Saturday, May 14th and polls will be open from 7:00am through 7:00pm at the Adams Street Community Center for all three elections.
