Brownwood Police Chief Mike Corley released crime statistics from the police department for the month of February along with year-to-date numbers for January and February of 2011.

Corley releases Brownwood Police Department crime statistics on a monthly basis as a program to have a more transparent department to the public.  Corley stated that he also looks at these numbers to see where the department needs to focus.

Overall reported crime in Brownwood was down in February by 24% as compared to the previous month.   Of those crimes, nearly 19% were cleared for the month of February 2011.  The total number of crimes is down for the month as are the year-to-date totals.  There is a decrease of nearly 14% in reported crimes overall year-to-date 2011 as compared to year-to-date of the same period of 2010.

Year-to-date 2011 statistics show that 18.7% of crimes are being cleared as compared to 16% cleared in year-to-date of 2010.  The percentage of crimes that are being cleared has improved by 2.7% overall.

See below for the January and February statistics for 2011 along with tables of year-to-date 2011 and 2010 statistics of the same time period for comparison.  The number reported refers to crimes that were assigned a case number and responded to by police.  The number cleared refers to how many cases were closed either by an arrest or after further investigation.
