CityofBrownwoodlogo_smallThe state comptroller’s office reports that sales tax receipts continued to show positive numbers in Brownwood and the state as a whole as March sale tax allocations are released.

The City of Brownwood will receive $399,382.98 for March’s sales tax payments rising 4.36% over the March 2010 sales tax payments.  This gives Brownwood a jump of about 5.89% so far on the year over the first three months last year.

The cities of Early, Bangs and Blanket all had increases this month.  In fact, Brown County as a whole had allocations up 4.88% over the same period last year, making the year to date allocations received up 4.05% over the same year-to-date period of 2010.

On Friday, State Comptroller Susan Combs will deliver $433.1 million in March sales tax payments to Texas cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts.

“This is the 11th straight month that sales tax revenue has increased,” said Combs. “Much like in recent months, there were increases across all major sectors including oil and gas activity, manufacturing and retail trade. We will continue to monitor current economic conditions and gauge the effects on consumer and business spending.”

State sales tax revenue for March payments made to local governments represents sales that occurred in January.
