CareerTraining

Four students in Brownwood High School’s Floral Design Class learned first-hand what it is like to be a florist during one of the busiest times of year, Valentine’s Day.  Lupita Garcia, Krystal Garcia, Edith Rodriguez and Stephanie Chapa worked at Davis Floral during the Valentine’s Day rush.  Business co-owner, Rita Webb, called the High School looking for extra help, which she received from enthusiastic floral design students.

The students created rose vases, made bows, and cleaned the shop.  “Mrs. Webb was very impressed that they did not complain, especially when they had to clean,” said BHS instructor, Mitzi Cockerham.   She went on to say, “This opportunity may turn out to give some of the ladies full time jobs.”  Some of the students would have never considered floral design as a career, if not for the class.

All of the students agreed that, If not for the high school floral design class, they would have been lost.  “Working at the shop gave us really good experience,” said Krystal Garcia.  Plus, they all agreed that it was fun “making pretty things.”

The floral design class is part of the Agriculture, Food and Natural Resource cluster at Brownwood High School.
