JanetSmithJanet N. Smith, a loving wife and mother, passed away February 10, 2011 at her home at Lake Brownwood surrounded by her loving family.  Services will be held 2:30 P.M. Sunday, February 13, 2011 at the Heartland Funeral Home with Rev. Dick Williams officiating.  The family will receive friends at 1:30 P.M. Sunday prior to the service.  Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park.

Janet was born May 21, 1938 in Coleman, Texas.  She was a graduate of Brownwood High School and the University of Texas at El Paso.  On May 30, 1958, she married Mark Smith in Brownwood.   The first 7 years of their marriage were spent in Sacramento, California, where their 2 children were born.  In 1966, they moved to Clint, Texas where she eventually retired from teaching elementary and middle school with the Clint ISD in 1992. In 1994, they moved to Lake Brownwood.

She was a member of both the Bond Memorial Methodist Church in Clint, Texas and Central United Methodist Church in Brownwood, as well as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and had volunteered for ten years with AARP Tax Aide at the senior citizen center helping seniors prepare their taxes.  She was well liked by everyone and loved gardening and traveling.

Husband:                         Mark Smith of Lake Brownwood

Son:                               Scott Smith and wife Cheryl of Houston

Daughter:                        Brenda Vandivort and husband Don of Houston

Grandchildren:                 Bradley and Audrey Smith

Erin and Kyle Vandivort

Sister:                            Virginia Hans and husband Lou of Meadows Place, Texas

She was preceded in death by her parents District Judge A.O. and Adolene Newman and her brother Arthur Orin Newman, Jr.

Family request memorials be made to the Lighthouse Hospice.
