The Howard Payne University women’s basketball team had their seven game conference winning streak snapped Thursday night in a 64-75 loss to the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor.

The HPU women started slow, only scoring four points through the first 9:30 of the game, and found themselves down by 13 points with 6:47 left, 7-20 UMHB.

From there, the Lady Jackets would go on a 19-4 run over the next six minutes and would find themselves with their first lead of the game at 26-24. Entering the half, it was all tied up at 28 all.

In the second half, both teams traded leads and were tied five different times through the first fifteen minutes. At the 4:54 mark, UMHB traded and took the lead on two free throws from Lauren Reece, to make the game 60-61.

From there UMHB never relinquished their lead and held on through the final 4:30 of the game scoring 15 of the game’s final 19 points.

Brittany Roberson scored 25 points, eclipsing her previous career high of 24 as a Lady Jacket. Behind her was Tiffany Warner with nine points and Abby Parmelly with eight.

For UMHB, Landie Thompson finished with a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds.
UMHB out-rebounded HPU 46-38, and outshot HPU 43% to 38%.

The Lady Jackets go to 12-6 overall and 9-5 in the ASC. The Cru of UMHB go to 11-7 overall and 8-6 in conference.

The next game for the Lady Jackets is at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29 at the Brownwood Coliseum against Concordia University.
