CroftA Memorial Service for Donald Morriss Croft, 78, of Brownwood, Texas will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 24, 2011, at Blaylock Funeral Home.  Long-time friend, Ken Green, will officiate. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Don was born on April 16, 1932, in Little Rock, Arkansas to Clinton Giles Croft and Marie Morriss Croft.  He graduated from Little Rock High School in 1950, from Amarillo College in 1956, and from West Texas State College in 1963.  He also spent 4.5 years in the Air Force in the period of the Korean War.  He held many post graduate certifications in banking and worked in the banking industry for over 50 years in towns including Amarillo, Ennis, Corsicana, and Brownwood.  After retiring from banking, he entered into the used car business until his 2nd retirement in 2004.  Don was an avid reader and he loved animals.

Always willing to serve, Don was considered a civic leader in many areas.  While in Corsicana, he was the Director of the Campfire Girls.  In Ennis, he received the Outstanding Citizen award in 1971, served on the Housing Board of Appeals, and was the Lieutenant Governor of the Texas-Oklahoma District of the Kiwanis Club.  He was also instrumental in getting the first Key Club formed at Ennis High School.

Locally, he started the Pecan Valley Kiwanis Club and served as President of the Chamber of Commerce in 1989. Don was a “people” person who never met a stranger.  He loved getting to know people and finding out about their lives.  He was loved by many, and will be missed by all.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Croft, of Brownwood, daughter Jo Lynn Landrum and husband, Terry, of Brownwood, and son, David Croft, of Brownwood, his three grandchildren, Jeremy Smith and wife, Kristin, of Brownwood, Lyndsey Smith Williamson and husband, James, of Abilene, and Clint Croft of Brownwood.  He also leaves his three great-grandsons, Eric and Aden Smith of Brownwood, and Jud Williamson of Abilene and his sister, Ann Croft Crow, of Little Rock, Arkansas.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services have been entrusted to the care of Blaylock Funeral Home.
