The third day of the 59th Brown County Youth Fair was full of market goats, steers and heifers.  The audience for shows continued to be good crowds, the weather was a little warmer, and there were many school children that came on field trips.  In fact, five classes of kindergarten students from Woodland Heights Elementary came to see all the animals.

Market Goats were shown in the morning and finished up early afternoon.  The judge for this event was Billy Bob Moczygemba of College Station.  Overall Grand Champion was Jaylin Smith and Reserve Champion was awarded to Codi Perkins, both of Zephyr FFA.

Moczygemba stated that the goats of Brown County were very strong and should do well in the major shows.

“I don’t think I’ve gotten eight in a ring that are as strong as these,” stated Moczygemba.  “They will be taking pictures somewhere else along the line.  I’m impressed with how the kids work with the animals, work with the judge and work with each other.”

Grand and Reserve Champions winners from 2010, area high school football players Jordan Roberts and Levi Westerman (respectively) had another good year with Westerman claiming the Grand Champion and Roberts earning the Reserve Champion.  Returning judge for the steers and heifers from 2010 Roger Mikeska commented on many of the top steers, stating that Brown County had some animals that will do well at any major show they enter.

The heifer divisions had some beautiful animals as well.  Mikeska gave advice to keep feeding and exercising these animals and many will be able to do well and place at the top in the major shows.

Judging for the Home Economics Division was completed and results will be available Sunday.
