The state comptroller’s office reports that sales tax receipts spiked in Brownwood as January’s sale tax allocation were released.

The city of Brownwood will receive $422,171.27 for January’s allocation which is up a whopping 12.17% compared to the allocation for January 2010.  The City of Early saw another drop in their tax allocation this month which dipped almost 3% compared to January of last year.

Statewide, Texas Comptroller Susan Combs will send January sales tax allocations of $302.6 million to Texas cities, up 10.3 percent compared to January 2010. Texas counties will receive sales tax payments of $28.5 million, up 17.3 percent compared to last January.

“This marks the ninth consecutive month of year-over-year improvement in sales tax revenues, with increases posted across the board,” Combs said.“There were increases in the oil and natural gas and manufacturing sectors reflecting recovering business spending. Sales tax in the retail trade and restaurant sectors were also up. As I outlined in this week’s Biennial Revenue Estimate, we forecast growth in sales tax revenue for the current fiscal year as well as the next two fiscal years.”

January sales tax allocations represent sales that occurred in November.
