Martin001Funeral services for Mary Edith Martin, age 97, of Bangs will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday January 1, 2010 at the Bangs First Baptist Church with Shannon Bond officiating, interment to follow at Bangs Cemetery under the direction of  Davis Morris Funeral Home of Brownwood. Visitation was held from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Mrs. Martin passed away December 30, 2010 in Brownwood.

Edith was born January 9, 1913 in Burnet County, Texas to Ernest Sikes and Ethel (White) Sikes. She married Charles Leroy Martin in 1934 in Bangs, Texas She was a member of the Bangs First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. Edith also enjoyed teaching Bible study at Bangs Nursing Home until she turned 95. She had served as a City Council member in Bangs, and had the honor of being the Grand Marshall of the 2005 Bangs May Day Parade.

She is survived by her children, Pearl Allen and husband Bobby of San Antonio, Joe Martin of Lake Brownwood, Linda Robinson of Ft. Worth; grandchildren Debra Moody and husband John of San Antonio, Kevin Martin and wife Sabrina of Lamesa, Tx, Benny Robinson of Ft. Worth, Betty Moore and husband Steven of Houston, Danny Robinson of Ft. Worth, Carla Martin of Brownwood, Rodney Robinson and wife Robin of Alvarado; 14 Great Grandchildren; Nine Great Great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Martin; brothers, Aurthor and Tim Sikes; sisters, Roxie Oliver, Nadine Grey; and a son-in-law Ray Robinson.
