Winnie Pearl Akins Nelson

Nelson001Funeral services for Winnie Pearl Akins Nelson, age 87, of Brownwood will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday December 28, 2010 at the Coggin Avenue Baptist Church with Tim Skaggs officiating, interment to follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park under the direction of  Davis Morris Funeral Home of Brownwood. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. Mrs. Nelson passed away December 25, 2010 in Brownwood.

Pearl was born June 5, 1923 in Coleman County, Texas to Wallace E. Martin and Mattie (Abernathy) Martin. She married James Martin Akins and he preceded her in death in 1967. Later she married Dr. Clifford Nelson who also preceded her in death. She lived in Brownwood for over 50 years and had worked as the secretary for Coggin Avenue Baptist Church before retiring.

She is survived by her children, Linda Akins Daniel and husband Wendell of Willis, Tx, Wynn Akins and wife Karen of Waco, and Carol Akins Myers and husband Kelly of Corsicana; stepdaughter, Sylvia Nelson Phillips and husband Doug; grandchildren, Celie Daniel Thomson and husband Lane, Kelley Daniel Foltz and husband Douglas, Amy Akins Lewis and husband Jon, Alyssa Akins Briggs and husband Jeff, Cori Kennedy Harkins and husband Matt, Clay Allan Kennedy and wife Alicia; great grandchildren, Alex, Abby, and Audrey Thomson; Ellie, Cole, Sydney Foltz; and Reagan, Riley, and Jordan Harkins; and Colin, Chance, Tristen, and Mitchell Kennedy; brothers, Billy Joe Martin of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Herbert Martin of Brownwood, and Roneal Martin of Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, James Martin Akins and Dr. Clifford Nelson; a sister, Stella Martin Moore; brothers, Fred, J.M., Leland, and Curtis Martin.

Memorials may be made to the Coggin Avenue Baptist Church 1815 Coggin Avenue, Brownwood, TX 76801.
