Brownwood and Early High Schools Win First at HPU’s Academy Scholastic Contest Competitions

Brownwood High School students took first place in Division I and Early High School took first place in Division II at the 15th annual Academy Scholastic Contest hosted by Howard Payne University’s Douglas MacArthur Academy of Freedom. The contest was held on the HPU campus on December 13.

Students from eight area high schools participated in the contest including Brownwood, Stephenville, Early, Hico, Eastland, Brookesmith, Early Paradigm and Zephyr.

Second place in Division I was presented to Stephenville High School. Addition Division II winners included Hico High School taking second place and Eastland High School winning third place.

The students competed in 15 different subject areas, including accounting, American history, English grammar, biology, Spanish, American government, Texas history, literature, algebra, chemistry, western civilization, psychology, economics, sociology and world geography.

Individual first, second and third place medals were also awarded to students for each subject. Schools with the most wins received first, second and third place trophies.

The Douglas MacArthur Academy of Freedom is HPU’s multi-disciplinary honors program with emphasis in the social sciences. The Academy provides a broad-based, liberal arts education firmly rooted in Christian values, Western civilization and free enterprise.
