Lady Jackets Down LeTourneau

RobersonLONGVIEW, Texas – The Howard Payne women’s basketball team even their overall record at 4-4 with a 72-55 win over LeTourneau University in American Southwest Conference crossover action Monday evening.

The HPU Lady Jackets led the entire game and held a 38-17 halftime lead. LeTourneau shot just 26% from the field in the first half compared to 42% for HPU.

Howard Payne’s largest lead of the game was 30, 53-23 with 13:30 left to play. The big difference in the game came on the boards with HPU out-rebounding LeTourneau 50-28.

Katy Sarem led HPU with 12 points. Point guard Brittany Roberson had a great all-around game with 11 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Jasmin Thomas and Tresta Donahoo each added nine points. Kalin Hanna followed with eight points and seven rebounds off the bench.

LeTourneau was led by Laura Hahn with 13 points and four assists. De’Shante Thomas added six blocks.

Howard Payne improves to 4-4 overall and 2-4 in ASC play while LeTourneau falls to 1-7 overall and 1-5 in conference action.

The Lady Jackets will be in Alpine, Texas next Monday to take on Sul Ross State University. It will be a 2:00 pm tip-off.
