areachampsBrownwood continued their undefeated season by taking down the Bridgeport Bulls Friday night in their 3A Area Round, Division 2 playoff game.

As usual, the Brownwood fans were out in full force, their numbers estimated to be near 6000 at Memorial Stadium in Stephenville.   Brownwood was on the home side, and the crowd spilled over into two sections of the visitors’ side as well as standing room only in the end zones.

Although Brownwood defeated Bridgeport by 30 points, Brownwood Head Coach Bob Shipley in a radio interview gave the Bulls credit for their outstanding offense.

“I feel like I just got through with a track meet,” stated Shipley.

The statistics showed that the teams ran throughout the game:

The Brownwood Lions had 579 yards of total offense, with 236 rushing and 343 in the air.  Bridgeport gained a total offense of 411 yards.

Brownwood will face Borger in the Regional playoff game Friday, November 26th, at 7:30pm, in Abilene at Shotwell Stadium.

The scoring plays of the game were:

*Just 3 minutes into the game on Bridgeport’s second possession, Jaxon Shipley intercepted for a 23 yard gain which was finished out in two more plays with Levi Perez making a 4 yard rushing touchdown.  Dillion Ellis followed with the extra point and the Lions put the first points on the scoreboard, 7-0.

*With 9:04 left in the first quarter, three plays later, Bridgeport answered back with a 64 yard touchdown and the extra point.  The score was then tied at 7-7.

*Less than a minute into the second quarter, Stehl Ratliff carried the ball for a 2 yard touchdown which finished off an 80 yard drive in 9 plays.  Ellis was good for the extra point; the score was now 14-7.

*9:45 on the clock in the second quarter, Perez made a 15 yard rushing touchdown and Ellis scored yet another extra point and brought the score to 21-7.

*5:59 left in the first half, Bridgeport scored a field goal which finished a 51 yard drive.  The score was then 21-10.

*Brown carried for an 8 yard touchdown with 2:15 left in the first half.  The extra point was no good.  Brownwood led 27-10.

*The game changing play was made by Derek Longoria with just 21 seconds left in the first half, when he made an interception and ran for an 86 yard touchdown.  The extra point was delivered by Ellis and the score was 34-10 at the half.

*Just a few minutes into the second half, with 9:32 on the clock, Jaxon Shipley made a 40 yard touchdown.  The extra point was no good and the score was 40-10.

*In less than a minute after the Brownwood touchdown, Bridgeport answered with a touchdown with 8:09 left in the 3rd quarter.  The extra point was good and the Bulls brought the score to 40-17.

*Just one minute later, QB Graylon Brown carried for a 27 yard touchdown and Ellis delivered the extra point.  The score was then 47-17.

*With 4:49 left in the 3rd quarter, Bridgeport scored a touchdown finishing off a 65 yard drive.  The extra point was good and the Bulls brought the score to 47-24.

*With 2:22 left in the 3rd quarter, Brown connected with Shipley for a 58 yard touchdown that was called back due to a penalty against Brownwood.

*1:15 Brown connected with Shipley who made a 45 yard touchdown.  Ellis followed with the extra point to bring the score to 53-24.

*Vance McShan made his seventh interception of the year with just 1:02 left in the 3rd quarter.  Brownwood wasn’t able to score on this possession.

*In the 4th quarter, 11:45 on the clock, Bridgeport intercepted the ball and carried it 14 yards, which was followed up by a 2 yard touchdown and extra point.  The score was then 54-31.

*4th quarter 11:18 on the clock, Bridgeport made an onside kick, which Brownwood recovered, then dropped, and McShan came up with the recovery of the fumble.  A few plays later, Brown handed off to Ratliff who rushed for 2 yards and the touchdown.  Ellis delivered the extra point, the final score of the game.  Brownwood wins 61-31.
