Brownwood Police Chief Mike Corley released crime statistics from the police department today for the month of October along with year-to-date numbers for 2009 and 2010.

Corley releases Brownwood Police Department crime statistics on a monthly basis as a new program to have a more transparent department to the public.  Corley stated that he also looks at these numbers to see where the department needs to focus.

Overall reported crime in Brownwood was up in October by 46.6 % compared to the previous month.   Although the total number of crimes is up for the month, the year-to-date numbers show there is still a slight decrease of 5% in reported crimes.

Year-to-date 2010 statistics show that 21.3% of crimes are being cleared as compared to only 11.6% cleared in year-to-date of 2009.  The percentage of crimes that are being cleared is up by 45.5% when comparing the two years.

See below for the October & September stats along with tables of year-to-date 2010 numbers and 2009 stats of the same time period for comparison.  The number reported refers to crimes that were assigned a case number and responded to by police.  The number cleared refers to how many cases were closed either by an arrest or after further investigation.
