Despite rain that forced the event indoors, the Lehnis Railroad Museum had a successful concert Saturday for their first ever Whistle Stop Jazz Concert.

The museum’s curator, Mary Irving, reports that attendance was good and the music was great.

“Over 250 people enjoyed Gerschwin, Big Band sounds, and great jazz,” said Irving.

Members of the Heartland Jazz Combo played during the event who include Jodie Hohertz (singer), Kris Redus (drums), Gannon  Phillips (base & trombone), Stephen Cox (saxophone and clarinet), and Island Phil (guitars).  The large crowd sang along, tapped their feet and danced all through the evening.

The museum and concert entrance were free, and people spent time between songs looking at all the railroad exhibits.  The food was catered by Casey Rowlett, Runaway Train Cafe and Twisted Sisters.

“The concert goers drank 40 cups of coffee and 15 gallons of ice tea, so there was no chance of sleeping later, with strains of great music still floating through the night,” Irving said.
