The Texas Board of Nursing formally approved the Registered Nursing program Thursday for Ranger College located in Brown County.

The newly approved associate degree nursing program will launch in January with 30 students looking to be enrolled each year for the next two years.  Ranger College officials hope to possibly expand the program after that to allow more students to attend.

Ranger College President Dr. Bill Campion, Executive Director Don Bostic, Dean Marnita Guinn, and a delegation from Brownwood traveled to Austin on Thursday to be on hand for the approval of the new program by the board.

Applicants wishing to enter the newly accredited RN program at Ranger College will be considered using a point system that includes grade point average, grades in required courses, residence, and other criteria. Preference will be given to individuals residing in Brown, Eastland, Stephens, Graham, Comanche and Erath counties.

Ranger College recently graduated almost 40 students through its LVN program.
