During the month of October, the Brownwood Rotary Club will be distributing a Student Dictionary to every third grader in Brown County.  That means 554 dictionaries will be given to students on ten campuses in seven towns across the county.  According to the club’s Dictionary Project Chairman Larry Podeweltz, “The Brownwood Rotary Club started the distributions three years ago and the response from educators, parents and the community has been very positive.”  He continued, “It just warms our hearts to see the excitement on the faces of the children as we show them all the fun facts to be found in the dictionary.”

The project is funded from the proceeds of the Annual Holiday Arts & Crafts Show held the second weekend in November in the Brownwood Coliseum.  This year’s show will be Saturday, November 13 and Sunday, November 14.  The show is juried, with the majority of the items being hand-made by the vendor.  Offerings from previous shows included jewelry, wood crafts, crosses, pottery, metal sculptures, quilts and denim, salsas, preserves and even goats’ milk soaps and lotions.  Show Coordinator, Rotarian Laura Terhune stated, “This is a great place to do some Christmas shopping because you can get unique items as well as things that are just not found in department or discount stores.” 

Admission to the Annual Holiday Arts & Crafts Show is only $2 with children 10 and under FREE.  Each person who pays admission will receive a chance to win a 32-inch television to be given away on Sunday afternoon.  In addition, attendees will receive another chance to win with each purchase made during the show—and DOUBLE their chances on Sunday.
