Two blood drives to benefit Wes Fletcher, Jr., (who was recently severely injured in a car accident) are scheduled Friday September 17th and Tuesday, September 21st.

Friday, Sept 17th blood drive will be held at the United Methodist Church located at 18001 Hwy 183N, in May, Texas on Friday Sept. 17th from 9am-2pm.
Tuesday, Sept. 21st a blood drive is scheduled at the High Mesa Cowboy Church located at 1100 High Mesa Drive in Brownwood, Texas from 10am-4pm.

Donations may also be made at Hendricks Medical Center as well, donors are asked to inform staff that you are donating for Wes Fletcher.  Blood type does not matter.  For every 2 pints given, Wes will get one credit.

Four local businesses have been trying to schedule local blood drives for Fletcher, however, Abilene is in a different service area than Brownwood.

United Blood Services helps the Brownwood and surrounding area with their blood services and due to legal complications and regulations cannot transfer blood they receive to Fletcher or out of their area.  Although they cannot help with Fletcher directly, officials at United Blood Services remind the community that all blood donated to the local drives that are coming up benefits the local community and that it is still very important to support the local blood needs here as well.

Meeks Blood Center in Abilene is the center that services Abilene and its area hospitals.  They have received calls that indicate over 130 people are ready to give on Fletcher’s behalf, so they have been working diligently to figure out a drive that will be more accessible for these willing donors.  Because of that overwhelming outpour of willing donors, they scheduled the above drive at the High Mesa Cowboy Church.

According to officials at Meeks, a scheduled blood drive for the general blood needs of the area was held in Cisco today which was overwhelmed by people wanting to donate to Fletcher.  Unfortunately, appointments were already made and not everyone could be accommodated.

The drive in May was set up but will not occur until Friday.  Donors may give blood at Meeks Blood Center or at Hendricks Medical Center on Fletcher’s behalf as well.

“He has had so much support,” stated Francis Baker of Meeks Blood Services.  “He must be a very special man.”
