TurnerWMr. Wayne Strong Turner of Brownwood passed away on Thursday, September 9, 2010 after residing for a short period in Songbird Lodge in Brownwood. A native of Brownwood, Wayne was born to Jewel S. “Fritz” Turner and Norene Strong Turner Burns on September 11, 1932. He graduated from Brownwood High School in 1950, attended Texas A & M and East Texas A & M before entering service in the United States Army. While serving in the Army, he married the Love of His Life; Anita Louise Brooks, and they celebrated 55 years together on June 4, 2010. They resided in England while he was in the Army. Following his active service, Wayne came home in 1960 and joined his mother in the family business, Turner Office Equipment and eventually bought her out and became CEO and President. Turner’s was a leader in introducing the new age of calculators, cash registers, and word processors in central Texas.

Wayne was very involved in the Brownwood Jaycees, Brownwood Fair Association, Rotary, and Kiwanis Club; He had been active as a Boy Scout Leader, Brownwood Country Club, Elder in the Church, and sang in the Choir at Church, He served as President of both the Country Club and Heart of Texas Rotary Clubs.

Wayne enjoyed hunting, fishing, and his Saturday morning golf. He also loved spending time with his family and his Church.

Wayne is survived by his wife; Anita, 2 daughters and sons in law; Donna & Tom Sikes of Brownwood, Susan & Jim Cross of Arlington, grandchildren Luke and Samantha Lewis, Thomas and Kayla Sikes, Tami Gibson and Skylar Cross, his sister; Joan Jolly of Huntsville, and brother; Bill Turner of Killeen, step-sister Olga Dugan, step-brother; Jim Burns and 4 great grandchildren, other relatives Lynn and Barbara Pittard, Lee and Barbara Brooks, numerous nieces, nephews, and many many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Jewel S. “Fritz” Turner and Norene Turner-Burns, step father Clay Burns, and step brother Don Burns, one great grandson; Maddox.

Visitation will be Friday, September 17, 2010 from 6 until 7:00 P. M. at First Christian Church, 2411 Coggin Ave. Brownwood, Texas. Services will be Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 10:30 A. M. in the First Christian Church, with Rev. Sterling N. Lentz officiating, interment will follow in East Lawn Cemetery, Early, Texas under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Coleman.

Memorials may be sent to the Church and or your favorite charity. Condolences may be made at Walker Funeral Home, 401 S. Commercial Ave, Coleman, Texas 76834, 325-625-4103.
