stephenvilleIt was a sweet victory for the Brownwood Lions Friday night as they win over 4A Stephenville 49-16 proving they are a force to be reckoned with.

The coin toss was won by Stephenville who elected to receive.  On Stephenville’s second possession, 5 minutes left in the first quarter, Stephenville scored on 4th and 10 with a 27 yard field goal making the score 0-3.

Brownwood’s Derek Longoria took a punt return out to the 38 yard line.  Five runs in the drive by Stehl Ratliff sets up a Vance McShan TD in the last two minutes of the first quarter, answering Stephenville’s opening score.  Dillon Ellis proves good with the extra point and the score was 7-3

The Lions defense pressures Stephenville causing their QB to overthrow a couple of times, and on 2nd & 10, a pass is thrown into the end zone and intercepted by Longoria.  With 7:20 left in the first half, Brown hands off to Ratliff who pushes into the end zone, bringing the score to 14-3 after Dillon Ellis scores the extra point.

Stephenville manages to get their only touchdown of the first half with 3:26 left in the 2nd quarter.  The extra point is good, raising the score to 14-10.

Stephenville was forced at 4th and 17 on their next possession, with only 10.5 seconds left in the half, to make a 44 yard field goal attempt that missed.

Brownwood took possession at the Stephenville 27yd line and Brown takes a knee, ending the first half.

The first possession in the second half,  Brownwood RB Levi Perez  carries a 49 yard run setting up for the next Brown to Shipley TD with 10:45 left in the third quarter, making the score 21-10.

Stephenville drives down near the goal line pushing into the endzone for another touchdown which will be the Yellow Jacket’s last scoring drive of the game.

With 48.2 seconds left in the third quarter, Shipley makes another TD with a good extra point making the score 28-16.

Yellow Jacket’s next drive was short lived as they heave the ball down field  as Shipley, in the 3rd play of the drive, jumps and intercepts at the 33yd line.  The Lions make the best of the opportunity a few plays later when Shipley makes another TD reception with 11:05 left in the game.  Ellis remains perfect with another extra point.

With a little more than 9 minutes left in the game, Longoria scores a touchdown and Ellis provides the extra point, bringing the game to 42-16.

The Lions get the ball back on another interception.  The Lions end that drive with a 38 yard pass completion to Shipley.  Dillon Ellis kicks the extra point the final score of the game 49-16.

The Lions go 3-0 on the season taking out longtime rival Stephenville.   The Lions go on the road next Friday to face Llano.
