hpusoccerlogoThe Howard Payne Lady Jacket soccer team was unable to hold an early lead ending in a 1-1 draw against the Huston-Tillotson University Rams on Labor Day Monday.

Howard Payne made it a one side affair with 11 shots on goal to the Rams 2, but were unable to get the second goal for the win.

HPU’s goal came in the 19 minute when Leslie Jones knocked in her first goal of the season off a rebound from the keeper to get the early 1-0 lead.

Huston-Tillotson pulled even in the 58 minute when Wilcut found Rios in the box to score the 1-1 goal. HPU keeper Adrienne Walker mishandled the save and allowed the ball to slip from her hand into the boot of the HTU forward. There were no yellow cards for either team, but the fouls ended at HPU 6 and HTU 10. Corners were at 4-1 for HPU.

HPU goal keeper, Walker, had one save and also allowed one goal. HTU keeper Moran, had 5 saves in the first half. Carias took over the in second and overtime periods with 5 saves as well.

The HPU women move to 0-1-1 on the year, while Huston-Tillotson goes to 2-1-2.

The next game for the Lady Jackets will be at 2:00 Saturday, September 11 at Citizens National Bank Soccer Field against Wayland Baptist University.
