Billy Newman

Billy Gene Newman, age 66, of Brownwood died Sunday afternoon at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Wednesday in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Benny M. Allcorn officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 – 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.

He was born February 27, 1944 in Odessa, the son of the late Thomas Jackson and Bessie Sawyer Newman. He graduated from the May High School in 1962 and attended college at Howard Payne until entering the service. He served in the U. S. Army during the Viet Nam Conflict and later served in the U. S. Army Reserves being discharged in 1973 as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was married to Linda Jean Coker who preceded him in death, and they had three children, twin daughters April and Kimberly and a son, Thomas Lee who also preceded him in death. He was the owner of Newman Paving Company and had lived in Brown County most of his life.

He is survived by his twin daughters,
April Chambers and husband Tracy of May
Kimberly Rainey and husband Anthony of May

Step-children – Ricky Lee Coker of Waco
Preston Kemp of Brownwood
Stephenie Stacy-Rose of Azle
Sonia Me’chelle Mitchell of Azle

Grandchildren – Ryce Herndon of Pearland
Dakota Chambers of May
Weston Chambers of May
Jazmyn Rainey of May

4 Step Grandchildren also survive

2 Brothers – Doyle Newman and wife Novella of May
Garland Newman and wife Barbara of Blanket

Several Nieces and Nephews
He is also survived by his two very special dogs, Cerveza and Miata.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Thomas Lee Newman, Brothers Jimmy Don Newman and Tommy Newman and his wife Sharon and a sister-in-law – Willa Jean Newman.
