NeldaWalskeNelda Jean Richter Walske, 84, of Brownwood, passed way August 21, 2010, in Granbury, Texas.

Funeral services, under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home of Brownwood, will be Wednesday at 10 AM, August 25, 2010, at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Brownwood, Texas. Interment will follow at the Eastlawn Memorial Park in Early.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, August 24, 2010, at the funeral home.

Nelda was born at the Bean Ranch in Lampasas County on October 12, 1925, to Henry Christian and Hattie Belle Richter. The old rock house has a Texas Historical marker and is still there where her mother and father were married in the Great Hall on January 9, 1924. They later moved into Lampasas where Nelda attend school and graduated in 1943.

Nelda and her best friend, Winnie Hicks Pearce, were volunteers at the USO in Lampasas during WW II, where she met her husband, Walter Walske, the love of her life. They were married in Lampasas on January 6, 1945. The reception was held at the USO Hall.

Nelda was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, and later became a member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church after moving to Brownwood in October of 1960. She served on the Ladies Auxiliary as secretary, and was the director of the Alter Guild for 25 years.

Nelda was what was called a ‘Scout Widow’, by supporting her husband for many years through his dedication to Scouting in Lampasas and Brownwood.

Nelda was preceded in death by her mother and father, and her husband of 62 years. She is survived by her sons: Don Walske of Granbury; Gary Walske, his wife, Sue, of New Braunfels; and her two grandchildren, her pride and joy, Jonathan Davis and Kathleen Joy Walske of New Braunfels. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Nelda loved to travel, work in her flower beds, sew, and cook. She considered many of her friends as a part of her extended family. Nelda will be missed very much, but we know that she is in heaven with our loving Father.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Rehab of Abilene.
