JonespicDr. Justin Murphy has filed for re-election as Brownwood ISD School Board Trustee in place 6.

Murphy is currently a member of the Brownwood ISD Board of Trustees and was elected to place 6 in 2006.

Dr. Murphy has a bachelor’s in History and Political Science, a master’s in History and a Ph.D. in History.  He is a professor at Howard Payne University, where he is also the Director of the Academy of Freedom, Dean of the School of Humanities and Brand Professor of History.

Dr. Murphy’s wife of 26 years is Jessica, who is a teacher at Woodland Heights Elementary.  They have two sons, Jonathan, who is a Brownwood High School graduate and current Howard Payne student and Jason, who attends Brownwood High.

Three others have already filed as candidates for the school board including Roderick Jones (place 3), Tim Jacobs (place 7), and Michael Cloy (place 1).  Jones and Jacobs currently serve on the school board.  Current trustee for place 1, John Nickols, has not filed for re-election.   The last day to file for a place on the ballot is August 24, and the election will be held November 2.

Those interested in running for BISD school board trustee can pick up an information packet at the Brownwood ISD Central Administration Office at 2707 Southside Drive.  For questions, call Karen Dempsey at 325-643-5644.
