Monday morning, a very short agenda led Brown County Commissioners to discuss what was not on the court’s agenda, the possibility of a burn ban at next week’s meeting.

With a fire south of Brownwood that kept firefighters busy for 5 hours over the weekend, County Judge Ray West said that consideration of a burn ban will be on next week’s Commissioner’s Court agenda.  Fire dispatch also reported two more brush fires Monday evening off of Hwy 67 west of Bangs, near the county line.

“Green grass and green cedar trees will burn,” stated Commissioner Steve Adams.  He was speaking of the fire south of town in his precinct.  Watching the fire quickly engulf green cedar trees made an impression on Adams causing him to reconsider his thoughts about the county’s need for a burn ban.

Agenda items discussed at Commissioners Court included:

* Suzy Young, Brown County Elections Administrator, brought before the court a list of Republican and Democratic election judges which was approved.  The only change the state has implemented, according to Young, is a change in the dates of the term for election judges, which shall be September 1 through the end of August of the following year.

*Judge Frank Griffin was in a jury trial and not able to attend the court, passing the item of consideration of purchasing a computer through the DWI Grant funds until the next session of Commissioners’ Court.

*Commissioner Larry Traweek requested approval to purchase a tractor with a front end loader and a shredder for the price of $66,361.  Commissioners approved the purchase with financing through Texas Bank for a new John Deer tractor with the front end loader and shredder.  The reason given for the purchase is that the old tractor continues to be broken down.
