LewisGraveside funeral services for Alvin Wayne Lewis, age 74, of Lake Jackson, formerly of Bangs, will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 31, 2010 in the Bangs Cemetery with Michael Brinkley officiating under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at the funeral home.

Mr. Lewis died Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in Houston.

Wayne was born in Rochelle on November 23, 1935 to Wallace and Cornece (Stovall) Lewis. He attended Bangs schools, lettered all four years on the football team and graduated in the Class of 1955. Wayne served his country in the U.S. Army for two years of active duty and four years in the reserves.

Wayne married Geraldine Brinkley in Bangs on December 20, 1958. They were members of the First Baptist Church of Bangs before moving to Lake Jackson in 2003.

Wayne worked for 27 as an operator for Dow Chemical before retiring. He was member of Operating Engineers Local #584.

Wayne was a devout Christian man with a passionate love for his family. One of his other passions was being in the outdoors. He looked forward to deer season and also to football season every fall.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 51 years, Geraldine Lewis of Lake Jackson, daughter, Terri Morton and husband Parlon of Lake Jackson, a son, Douglas Wayne Lewis and wife Cynthia of Lake Jackson, six grandchildren, Brian Morton and wife Jamie, Tim Morton and wife Laura, Josh Morton, Michelle Alexander and husband Cody, Nicole Veach and husband Stephen, and Natalie Lewis; three great-grandchildren, Tristian Alexander, Adrianna Veach, and Khloe Morton.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Jerry Lewis.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association
