CalGrayHonoredCal Gray, former Brownwood Police Chaplain was honored at Tuesday morning’s City Council meeting.  Dave Fair, retired chaplain and former city councilman, presented a plaque of recognition to Gray for his years of service through the Chaplaincy program and also through his continued volunteerism to the community.

“Chaplain Cal Gray has been a diligent worker as a volunteer chaplain for the Brownwood Police Department for some 22 years,”     Former City Councilman and Chaplain Dave Fair said “…he has done a tremendous service to his community, to the department, and to the city administration.”

1988 then Chief Joe Don Taylor and city officials started the chaplain program.  Gray served as a Police Chaplain from June 1, 1988 to January 31, 2010.  He has responded to the scene of many different police calls.  When people were down and out, he offered support through the chaplaincy program by providing food, shelter, comfort, and support to those in need.  For the City of Brownwood program, Cal served as the officer in charge of the chaplain program for many years and assisted other Chaplains with their training needs.  Cal also maintained Central Baptist Church and is a Vietnam Vet.
