Lyric Theatre Getting All Dressed Up for the Party

LyricWAwningThe Lyric Theatre on Center Avenue in Downtown Brownwood is continuing to take shape as more of the exterior facade was revealed this week as well as the new awning with marquee.  Workers also removed construction coverings that revealed a peek at what the bottom of the exterior will look like, including the newly constructed ticket booth.

Although the renovation of the Lyric Theatre if far from complete, renovation of the exterior lobby area is going to be fully complete and revealed next week.  To commemorate this milestone, the Lyric board is throwing a huge street party in Downtown Brownwood on July 20th.  The event will feature live music and a street dance on Center Avenue near the Lyric Theatre.   Vintage films will be shown outside for all to see and spectators can enjoy hamburgers, hot dogs, and fun.

Performers from this year’s Lyric Performing Arts Company’s annual musical will do a scene from “Annie” on the street during the event.

The evening will be topped off as 4th grade students will get to flip the switch on the new Lyric sign that will light up Downtown Brownwood for years to come. The students were chosen through an essay contest where they wrote about how important the Lyric Theatre is to Brownwood.

Those in attendance who want to help further the renovation of the Lyric Theatre can receive an exclusive commemorative t-shirt for a minimum donation during the event.  The money will help pay for the final phase of renovation of the theatre and complete the last $500,000 needed in the $1.5 million capital campaign. The “Light the Sign Street Party” will take place on July 20th from 6pm until dark. Don’t miss it.
