heavyrainTropical moisture will continue to increase across the area tonight and Thursday as a tropical depression over the western Gulf of Mexico approaches the south Texas coast. Meanwhile, a frontal boundary will move south across the southern plains and is expected to stall over the area by Friday morning. This boundary will interact with the deep tropical moisture resulting in showers and thunderstorms capable of producing very heavy rainfall and the threat of flash flooding across the area.

The National Weather Service in San Angelo has issued a flash flood watch for Brownwood and the surrounding area effective from 7am Thursday through Friday evening

Showers and thunderstorms will increase across the area Thursday through Friday with the potential for very heavy rainfall.  Amounts of 1 to 3 inches are likely with locally heavy rainfall amounts up to 4 inches possible. Heavy precipitation falling on already saturated soils will run off and could produce flooding of low lying areas and low water crossings.

Potential flood impacts include flooding of highways and county roads which may become impassable. Heavy rainfall may cause flooding of low water crossings, city streets, creeks, and draws or other low lying flood prone areas.

Residents should monitor local forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.
