Local artist and Brownwood High School Graduate (Class of 93), Bobby (Robert) D. Lee is on a promotional CD signing tour at local and regional Hastings book & music stores.  Both 2007’s “2nd Phaze” and this year’s release “Indeed Soulful” are available at Hastings and Brownwood Music.

Lee is the son of Tommy and Gwendolyn Lee.  He was a student at Bangs until his sophomore year when he started school at Brownwood High.  He is still currently living in the Brownwood area.

Having a musical family helped Lee to develop an interest in music and eventually start his music career.  His dad and siblings all played in their grandparent’s church growing up.  In his mid teens Lee began to make music in the genre of instrumental jazz.  At 16, he purchased his first keyboard, then at 18 picking up the bass guitar when the bass player became ill and was no longer able to play.

18 was a turning point for Lee, as he met a man by the name of Terry Smith that “took him under his wings,“ as Lee puts it, helping him to develop his musical concept and eventually begin recording.  In 1999 Lee composed a song for his Aunt LeCorya Finley’s wedding.  After that he self produced recordings titled “Desire, Strength & Ambitions”.  This landed him a radio interview on KAZI 88.7 in Austin with music director Sharon Jones(Jaye).

Taking advantage of Internet and Internet radio helped Lee launch his career as well.  For the next seven years Lee continued to record; however did not release any new material.  2007 marked the release of “2nd Phaze”, an album that featured 15 tracks which were all original songs.

This new album was featured on www.smoothjazz.com and Sandy Shore, the station’s owner, gave a great review stating, “This is something from Texas that you’ll want to keep around way beyond 2008!”

The latest album released for Lee “Indeed Soulful”, which is the reason for his promotional tour, is 14 more original songs that range from smooth to contemporary jazz.

Lee recently was a guest on Brownwood’s own 102.3 the Breeze.  His website is
