A family lost their home to a fire Sunday evening in the 400 block of 6th Street in Brownwood.
The Brownwood Fire Department arrived at the residence around 7:30pm Sunday when the house, located next to the Truman Harlow overpass, was fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters were at the scene for several hours, but were unable to save the home.
The occupants, including a 2-year-old girl, were home at the time of the fire. Brownwood Fire Marshal Buddy Preston said that the fire started when the husband put a pan of grease on the stove and left it unattended. The man received a laceration to his wrist and blisters when he tried to knock the fire out Preston said. The family was able to escape without any other injuries.
Preston said that the house was a total loss and was completely gutted by the fire.
The family is getting help with food & clothing from the American Red Cross. They are staying with relatives.
