Funeral Services for Wynogene “Jean”  Powell, 82, of Brownwood, Texas will be held 10:00 A.M. Monday, June 28, 2010 at the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Rick Justice and Dallas Huston officiating.   Interment will follow at the Richland Springs Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.    She passed away Thursday, June 24, 2010 in a local nursing home.

Mrs. Powell was born on January 7, 1928 in Hall, Texas to James (Jim) Franklin and Izora Wood King.  After graduating from the W.H. Gibbons High School in Richland Springs she attended Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacodoches where she received her bachelor’s degree in education.  On December 21, 1947, she married Bobby Dean Powell in Richland Springs.  Jean taught school for twenty one years and retired from the Carthage High School in 1992 where she had taught the last thirteen.   In 1992 they returned to the Brownwood area and attended the Rocky Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors:

Husband:    Bobby Dean Powell of Brownwood, Texas

Daughter:   Peggy Jean Powell of Waco, TX

Son:       Tommy Dean Powell and wife Barbara of Cimarron, New Mexico

Granddaughters:          Felicia Gayle Zagorski and husband Andy of Portales, NM. Tameisha Deanne Bolen and husband Rowdy of Smyer, TX

Grandson:      Bucky Dean Powell and wife Nira of Amistad, NM.

Great Granddaughters:  Alyssa Bolen,*Reese Bolen and Amy Powell

Great Grandson:      Tyler Powell

Nieces:   Judy Littleton of Stephenville, TX

Barbara Wicker of Cape Coral, Florida

Nephews:        Larry Phillips of Commerce, Georgia

Kenneth Munsell of Andrews, TX.

James Munsell of Stephenville, TX.

Preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Mabel Munsell and Estelle Phillips.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
