Early Police Chief David Mercer reported three traffic stops that resulted in three arrests for possession of drugs over the weekend.

Friday at 4:00pm Officer Steven Means stopped a blue ford explorer in the 900 block of Early Blvd. for failing to signal a left turn. The driver, 36-year-old Matthew Thornton Morrow was acting extremely nervous while talking to officer Means and also showed signs of being under the influence of illegal narcotics according to police. Morrow continuously tried to put his hands in his pockets as if trying to get something or hide something. Officer Means conducted a pat down for weapons at which time he located a “meth pipe”. The pipe still contained methamphetamines in the bowl. Means then placed Morrow under arrest and transported him to the Brown County Jail.

Sunday morning at 1:40am Officer John Mills stopped a suspicious vehicle between a local business and motel. While checking the occupants of the car, several individuals came out of a room in the motel inquiring about why the police were outside their door. Officer Mills concluded with the vehicle and began speaking with the occupants of the room. While talking to these individuals Officer Mills could smell marijuana coming from the room. Mills searched the room and located some marijuana that had been hidden in a trash can. 18-year-old Richard Sanchez who was in the room claimed ownership of the marijuana according to the report. Sanchez was placed under arrest and taken to the Brown County Jail.

Saturday evening at 7pm Sgt Shawn Dibrell stopped a vehicle in the 400 block of Gorman Drive for a speeding 74 in a 55 mph zone. The driver, 26-year-old Joshua Morehead acted nervous while Sgt. Dibrell was talking with him according to the report. Sgt. Dibrell obtained consent to search the vehicle and located 2 bags of marijuana, smoking pipes and marijuana candy. The marijuana candy was a package of marijuana labeled for medical use only and listed marijuana as an ingredient the report stated. Morehead stated he bought the packages from a rally in Austin but that they probably originated from the California area where medical marihuana is sold according to the police report.
