LightUptheTownThe Lyric Performing Arts Company (LPAC) is giving local 4th grade students a chance to be the one to “flip the switch” on the new Lyric Theater sign.

Only recently, the new sign was hung on the front of the Lyric in Downtown Brownwood, as the First Phase of the restoration of the theatre was in progress.

In anticipation of the lighting of the sign, the Lyric Board decided to involve 4th grade students in the fun.  After viewing a video which tells the history of the Lyric and how it has impacted the culture of Brownwood through the years, 4th grade students will “write a composition explaining why restoring the Lyric Theatre is a project that is good for Brownwood and the surrounding area.” This project began this week in the Coggin Elementary.

LPAC anticipates that the First Phase of the theatre restoration will be complete in July and it will be time to celebrate with a big party and the lighting of the sign. Two 4th grade students will be chosen, because of their writings, to do the honors of “lighting up the town”.

Lyric Board members Hank Hunter and Patti Jordan created the video, with the creative voice and music from Rex Tackett and Dano Dunham of the Wendlee Broadcasting Company. Debbie Eoff, consultant to the Brownwood schools in the area of writing, wrote the prompt and made the connection to the Brownwood schools. LPAC is grateful to each person who helped with this project.

LPAC is sponoring a Children’s Drama Workshop during the first two weeks of June, the stage play, Harvey, first made famous by actor Jimmy Stewart, will be presented in June and the musical Annie will be presented during July.

The mission of the Lyric Performing Arts Company is to provide excellence in cultural entertainment while offering opportunities for local involvement in the arts.
