Howard_Payne_logosmallHoward Payne University will host Young and Summer Scholars programs July 19-23, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the HPU Academy of Freedom campus.

These programs are designed to provide fun and academically stimulating summer camp programming for children entering grades 1-6. The goal is to challenge school-age children academically as well as expose them to the HPU campus and the college classroom environment.

Summer Scholars is a program for children entering grades 4-6, with innovative instruction in computer graphics, speech/debate, science and physical education. Young Scholars is a program for children entering grades 1-3 features innovative instruction in reading, music, science and physical education.

According to Dr. Julie Welker, program director, “students enjoy an exciting academic curriculum that is designed specifically for their school age.”

Also, during the week, the students are introduced to the climbing wall at HPU and spend at least two days learning basic climbing techniques as part of their physical education curriculum.

The registration fee for the program is $150 and includes a child’s souvenir book bag, snacks and supplies. Deadline for registration is July 12, 2010, and registration forms can be accessed from the HPU website, www.hputx.edu.
