East Elementary celebrated the official naming of “Mr. Cox’s Playground” on Saturday, April 24th, at their family hamburger night.

Danny Cox was the principal of East Elementary for 13 years prior to his retirement in 2009.  He built all of the playground equipment, along with several of his friends, Jerry Richardson, Larry Smith, Keith Kensing, Scott Peters, James McFarland, and Jay Blackstock.  “We didn’t have any money to purchase the expensive equipment, so we a piece or two at a time,” said Mr. Cox.  It  took about two years to complete the playground.
