A surprised homeowner in the Shamrock Shores area of Lake Brownwood Monday evening hid in her bathroom as she heard two men attempt to burglarize her home. 

The woman arrived at her home Monday evening, walked in the front door, and went into her bedroom to retrieve her cell phone when she heard two men enter the front door.  Sheriff’s reports state that she locked the bathroom door, hid in the shower, and sent a text message to her husband who called the Sheriff’s Department.  She could hear a man in the living room and a second male in the bathroom adjacent to the bathroom she was hiding in the report states.

While hiding, she heard a loud crash sound coming from the back bedroom where there was an exterior door. 

Shortly after this, the victim’s husband arrived as did Brown County Sheriff’s Investigators Guthrie and Bird, and the house was checked to see if anything was missing.  It was reported that the back bedroom had some boxes which had been stacked up near the back exterior door which were knocked over when the would-be thieves exited the home.

Although two bedrooms had been ransacked, nothing was missing and it was presumed that the thieves were scared away by the arrival of the woman’s husband.  Investigators believed the men exited the back door, leaving through the back yard, and “hit the roadway and got away,” the report states.   

The incident is under investigation and there are no arrests at this time.

Last Wednesday, this same victim’s car was burglarized.  She had forgotten to lock her vehicle the night before.  When she entered the car the next morning she found the car had been gone through and her purse containing personal and financial information had been stolen along with paperwork from the recent purchase of the home.  It was noted that an iPod which had been in the vehicle had not been stolen, which the victim thought was unusual.  It is unknown if these two burglaries are related.

In unrelated incidents:

*On Monday morning, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a burglary of a building owned by a construction company.  The owner noted his shop had been broken into overnight.  A 14 foot flatbed trailer, a zero turning radius riding lawnmower, a 4-wheeler w/racks on the front and back of it, a red roll away tool box full of tools, a chainsaw, an air compressor and a chop saw were missing.  Total value of the items stolen was estimated to be about $13,750. 

*Sheriff’s Deputies responded to multiple overnight burglaries of vehicles in various areas of the county on Wednesday morning.  According to reports most of the vehicles were unlocked or did not have evidence of any forced entry.
