Martha L. Biggs

Funeral services for Martha L. Biggs, age 94, of Brownwood will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday April 22, 2010 at the Greenleaf Cemetery with Dr.Don Scroggs officiating, interment to follow under the direction of Davis Morris Funeral Home.

She was born September 15, 1915 in Brownwood, Texas to Earl and Mattie (Renfro) Looney. Her grandparents, J.R. and Laura Looney and David K. and Alef Renfro, were both pioneer families of Brown County.

Martha had been a member of the First United Methodist Church of Brownwood since she was a young child. She also worked as a young girl at the family business, Looney Mercantile, and she was a graduate of the Brownwood High School Class of 1933. She attended Howard Payne, Daniel Baker College, and graduated the Chicago Institute of Art.  Martha then married Burt Brooks in 1937 until 1944. In November 1949 she met and married Cullen Wilson Biggs in Brownwood; he preceded her in death in 1993.

She is survived by four children, sons, Bill Brooks and wife Joy of Lake Vallecito, CO, and Skip Brooks and wife Nita of Lebanon, TN; daughter, Laura James and husband Darrell of Lake Brownwood; and son David Biggs and wife Rhonda of San Antonio, TX; ten grandchildren; Seventeen great grandchildren; and seven great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Cullen Wilson Biggs, her parents, and a sister, Marie (Looney) Wright.
