Brownwood Police Officer Danny Hutchins was dispatched to 1500 block of 1st Street in regards to a hit and run Sunday afternoon, shortly after 3:00pm.  The victim was not a person or car, but a house.

Police reports indicate that a witness saw a pickup truck strike the front of the house and then leave the scene. The vehicle was reported to have extensive front end damage as a result of the crash.

After further investigation, the suspected vehicle was located with damage that matched the witnesses report as well as the evidence found at the scene of the crime.  The resident of the damaged house was not home at the time, but eventually called to report that her home had been crashed into.

On Tuesday, the owner of the suspect vehicle was contacted about the accident after tips from witnesses.  She explained that she was out of town at the time and told police that someone had broken into her home and stole the keys to her vehicle.   It was noted in the officer’s report that a neighbor had identified a man driving the suspect truck in recent days, and the owner stated that she had not given the man permission to drive the truck.

The report states that the male suspect was contacted by police in the days shortly after the accident.  The report also notes that he had an injury to his face and when asked about the injury, he told police that he had been in a wreck, but soon changed his story.  When police later contacted the suspect on his cell phone for a follow-up, he hung up on them according to the report.

At this time, there are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
