On Monday, Brown County Commissioners Court decided that the rains of the past few weeks have kept Brown County looking good for now.  High winds of spring and low humidity experienced recently have been of concern causing the commissioners to consider this possibility of issuing a burn ban.

Commissioner Joel Kelton stated, “I spoke with our fire chief and he thinks we are in good condition.”

Commissioner Steve Adams joined in saying, “I’m on the same page…the wind is our problem.”

Judge West proposed that consideration of a burn ban be posted weekly on the agenda, which was agreed by all.  No burn ban this week; however, most likely in the coming weeks it may be necessary to put a burn ban into effect.

In other matters on the agenda:

*April was proclaimed to be “Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month” and April 7, 2010 designated as “Go Blue Day”.

*Commissioners approved the hiring of a third person as part time help for the Elections Office after a lengthy and at times heated discussion of record keeping & salaries.  Judge West requested a projected budget from the Elections Office regarding the additional money needed to pay employees through the end of the election season.

*The Sheriff’s Office presented the Racial Profiling Report for 2009.  It was also reported by the BCSO that the jail roof project is now complete.
