SEGUIN, Texas – The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets bounced back from two defeats to Texas Lutheran on Thursday to sweep a doubleheader from the TLU on Friday at Morck Field. HPU won by scores of 8-3 and 5-3.

HPU (9-14, 6-8 ASC West) received a pair of complete-game pitching performances from Kayla Castillo (4-6) and Haleigh Caraway (5-4). The two pitchers combined to allow only four earned runs in the two victories.

TLU dropped to 9-17 overall and to 3-9 in the American Southwest Conference West Division.

TLU led in game one 2-0 into the fourth inning, but HPU erupted for two runs in the fourth and six more in the fifth.

In game two, the Yellow Jackets struck in the first with two runs and led 4-1 after two runs in the fifth. TLU cut the HPU lead to 4-3 with a two-run fifth. Howard Payne tacked on one run in the top of the seventh to secure the 5-3 win. 

The Lady Jackets will play next weekend back at home in a four-game series against Hardin-Simmons.
